DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN BRIEF
The Department of Environmental and Resources Management is one of the five (5) foundation departments of the Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Design namely: Civil Engineering, Electrical/Electronics, Environmental and Resources Management, Information and Computer Technology (ICT) and Mechanical Engineering established in 2016. The Department offers the course leading to a five-year single honour (BSc) degree in Environmental and Resource Management.
As a result of the need to understand the various environmental costs associated with 21st-century scientific knowledge and learn the approaches for conservation science and practice, there is that need to understand the type of natural resources within our environment. This include their nature, location and how to manage them as well as the processes that cause environmental degradation. These are all integrated in the BSc. programme in Environmental Management offered in the department of Environmental and Resources Management housed in the Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Design of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Prospective students will get the opportunity to specialise in particular areas with the selection of relevant courses offered within the curriculum and in their dissertation project. Potential areas of specialisation include but not limited to:
- ecosystem services
- environmental economics
- conservation conflicts
- habitat and biodiversity management
- environmental Impact assessment
- water quality management
- landscape design and assessment
- environmental application of geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing among others.
