Postgraduate Diploma in Fisheries
Philosophy
This programme is designed for the development of manpower in fisheries management and aquaculture for those already in service and others intending to join the profession. It sets out to train those who are interested in further graduate studies in the discipline. In this regard, the course is intended to bridge the gap between Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fisheries and others whose first degrees are not in fisheries, and the requirement for Maters’ degree programme.
Aim and Objectives
i. The aim of the Programme is to train and develop technical and professional fisheries scientists. The objectives of the PGD Fisheries programme are to:
ii. Prepare students for higher studies through exposure to some advances in the field of fisheries.
iii. To improve the skills of fishery technical personnel who are already employed in the industry.
Admission Requirement
i. Five O’ level credit passes including English language, Mathematics, and three other relevant subjects.
ii. Third class degree in Fisheries or HND (Upper Credit) and PGD with a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5.00 scale of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto or its equivalent from other recognized institution.
iii. In addition to the i-ii above, candidates must satisfy Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto matriculation requirement.
Any other qualification acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and the Senate of the university.
Mode of Study
The programme shall run on part-time basis.
Duration
Part-time: Minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of 24 calendar months.

Requirements for Graduation
- Register and pass 28 credit units
- Submit a project/ long essay of 4 credit units.
