Admission Requirements

The entry requirements for admission into the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree programme are:

UTME: Five (5) O’ level credit passes in English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The student must have performed well in the Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Screening.

Direct Entry.  Pass in General Certificate of Education or IJMB at Advanced level in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Zoology), in addition to the basic entry requirement at O’ levels.

UDUS Matriculation programme.The students that undertake and pass relevant pre-degree examination organized by the University are also considered for admission at 100 level through UTME.

Duration

Duration of training is 5 (five) academic sessions (10 Semesters) for UTME candidates and 4 (four) academic sessions (8 Semesters) for direct entry candidates.

The assessment of performance in each of the courses will comprise a continuous assessment (with a minimum score of 30 % and an essay and /or practical examination of 70 %).  

Examination Regulations

  1. The School shall operate a course unit system from Pre-clinical 100-200 levels. In addition
    1. Student at 100 level who fail to have a GPA of 1.50 shall repeat the class.
  2. The pass mark shall be 40% for all courses at the Pre-clinical and 50% at the Clinical levels respectively.
  3. The School shall adopt the University’s regulations guiding course unit system at 100-200 levels e.g. registration of Failed /carry over courses before new ones, maximum/ minimum units, etc.
  4. Students shall not be allowed into Clinical level with Pre-clinical courses.
  5. Clinical students (300-500 levels) are not allowed to carry-over any course (s). However,
    1. Students who failed not more than 50% of courses registered in any clinical year shall be allowed a re-sit examination within a period approved by the School Board. Unless otherwise stated, re-sit exams shall be conducted two weeks after the release of results.
    2. Students who failed any re-sit examination shall be required to repeat the year.
    3. Students who failed more than 50% of courses taken in any clinical year shall be required to repeat the year.
    4. During the period of repeat, clinical student (s) shall repeat all courses at that level.
  6. No student shall be allowed to stay in the same class for more than two (2) Academic Sessions.
  7. Student not indexed by MLSCN at the end of 300 level will not be allow to proceed to 400 level.
