Background

The Centre for Gender and Environment (CEGS) at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), is a dedicated hub for advancing research and initiatives at the intersection of environment, gender and climate change. It was re-established in 2024 with a commitment to addressing critical societal and environmental challenges. The Centre focuses on fostering sustainable development through innovative, locally-driven solutions.

CEGS operates on the principle of “thinking globally and acting locally” by aligning its efforts with global frameworks, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while tailoring its initiatives to address the unique needs of local communities. The Centre emphasizes the importance of locally-led development, recognizing that community-driven approaches are vital to achieving impactful and sustainable outcomes. Through cutting-edge research, capacity building, and community engagement, CGE seeks to promote gender equity, environmental sustainability, and climate adaptation strategies that benefit both local and global contexts.

CEGS serves as a platform for collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and community stakeholders, driving initiatives that bridge the gap between research and practical implementation. By addressing gender and environmental challenges holistically, the Centre is dedicated to creating a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
