DEPARTMENT OF FESHIERIES AND AQUCULTURE IN BRIEF
The Department was created in August, 2014, following the split of the Department of Forestry and Fisheries into Department of Forestry and Environment and Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. The two Departments existed as two Units from August 2008 to July 2014.
The Department of Forestry and Fisheries was established along with four other Departments (Agricultural Economics and Extension, Animal Science, Crop Science, and Soil and Agricultural Engineering) at the 15th meeting of the University Senate held on 27th June and 5th July, 1979. The Faculty of Agriculture and the five Departments commenced activities during 1980/81 academic session.
The programme was approved by the Senate in April 1996, but commenced during the 2001/2002 academic session with the registration of a student at the 300 level. However, the history of trainings in Fisheries at undergraduate level in this University dates back to 1980/81 session as one of the cognate areas of general agriculture (B. Sc.
