DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN BRIEF
The Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the 5 Departments proposed to commence in 2016/2017 Academic Session in the Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Design due to the expansion in academic programmes offered in the University. However, the National University Commission (NUC) deferred its approval to be housed in the Faculty.
The Department of ICT obtained the NUC’s approval to commence in the 2018/2019 Academic Session on the 19th June, 2018. Therefore, students have the opportunity to study at the Department, which is committed to constantly improve its academic standards.
The Department has two clear goals. The first is to produce quality graduates who are competitive and able to excel through continuous learning. The other is to be a leading research department. The Department has a Digital Job Creation Centre (DJCC) provided by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA in its 2017 intervention).
The DJCC is fully equipped with the state of the art facilities and an uninterrupted power supply to facilitate teaching, learning and research. The centre allows students to acquire soft skills to be self-reliant after graduation. It also started with six academic staff namely; Dr I. Saidu, Dr Yusuf Ahmed Tambuwal, Usman Hamza, Aminat Yusuf Bolatito, Hilal Bello Said, and Abdullahi Yushau. These staff serves to enhance and facilitate the students’ learning process with the Dr Ibrahim Saidu as the pioneer

The basic objectives of the programme can be outlined as;
a) to develop skills in the use of computer tools and in the application of computerised techniques, and to promote interdisciplinary research;
b) to stimulate independent study, critical and creative thinking;
c) to ensure a deeper understanding of the fundamental aspects of computing and Telecommunications;
d) to provide opportunities for advanced specialisation and creative research activities in Information and Communication Technology; and
e) to contribute to the education of prospective academicians.
Currently, the Department offers undergraduate programme leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Technology in Information and Communication Technology (B.Tech).
Mission
The mission of the Department is to produce quality students with versed knowledge and skills in ICT to become distinguished Information and Communication Technology experts capable of developing Information and Telecommunication solutions to the society.
Vision
The vision of the programme is to grow to a Department of excellence in teaching, learning, researching and consultancy in ICT in Nigeria and beyond.
