DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACY AND PHARMACY PRACTICE IN BRIEF

The department took off along with the faculty in 2007/2008 session with qualified academic and other supportive staff.

Activities of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS)

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice is one of the six departments in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, UDUS. The activities of the department encompass a wide array of responsibilities including teaching of future generation pharmacists and pharmacy graduates, conducting research and engaging in community development services. These activities focus on advancing the role of pharmacists in healthcare and addressing the evolving healthcare needs of diverse populations.

1. Teaching of future generation pharmacists: This is aimed at imparting specialized knowledge and clinical pharmacy practice skills to the future generation pharmacists, through classroom educational instructions, laboratory practice simulations, real clinical practice setting exposures, and organizing clinical presentation seminars for the students.

2. Research: The staff in the department conduct research in their respective research area of specializations including: Pharmacotherapy,Pharmacoeconomics, and Health Outcomes Researches.The department is also engaged in ensuring quality undergraduate students project researches.

3. Community Engagement: staff in the department are engaged in various community services including through mass media (radio and television) programs especially in the area of public health enlightenment campaigns, rational drug use education, drug abuse and misuse education etc.

4. In addition to the above, the department is perfecting the development of a Point of Care Testing (POCT) Practical Manual for pharmacy students, which upon completion will serve as a practice guide document for Community Pharmacists, and the department can be used as a Training and Workshop Center for Community Pharmacists on POCT.

To produce patient oriented, drug oriented and disease state-oriented pharmacy professionals that can meet up with the global trend of clinical pharmacy practice.

Our Mission

To train pharmacists on the application of knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences to foster safe and appropriate use of drugs in/by a patient while working in a multi-disciplinary healthcare team
