DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS IN BRIEF
The Department of Physics of Usmanu Danfodiyo University was founded in October 1975 with Dr. I.H. Dwivedi as its first Head (Acting). It was designed to run the B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics Programme from the temporary site of the University, with an initial staff strength of nine academic staff comprising of expatriate staff only. The programme started in 1977 session with 2 students. The number has steadily increased over the years.
Our Mission
The Department of Physics aspires to eradicate poverty and restore the dignity of the black man by recognizing and developing competencies and knowledge; encourage innovative thinking through intensive Physics education.
Our Vision
The undergraduate and the Postgraduate programmes in the Department of Physics are designed to provide the students with a sound, broad and balanced foundation in Physics knowledge and skills with courses which are oriented towards practical development. The programme is designed to achieve the millennium goals of the Federal Government of Nigeria, bearing in mind the necessary skills, understanding and attitude that graduates of the programme will need to be successful in their careers and daily lives.
