We are delighted to welcome you to the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria. The department was established in 2011 from the former department of Veterinary Medicine, Surgery and Theriogenology, following the Veterinary Council of Nigeria’s recommendations in 20…. . The department is engaged in the teaching and research in the fields of soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics and diagnostic imaging. The department is saddled with the responsibility of teaching Veterinary Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging and providing various veterinary surgical services for the community in conjunction with Veterinary Teaching Hospital. 

Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology offers courses covering both Veterinary Surgery and Radiology at Undergraduate and Post Graduate levels. The Surgery unit concentrates on all aspects of surgeries that include Anaesthesiology, Soft tissue surgery in Small, Large animals and exotic species. It also covers aspect of orthopaedics surgery in both small, large animals and exotic species. The Radiology unit is concerned with the use of Radiographs and other Diagnostic Imaging as aids to diagnosis and treatment of animal patients.

The department provides the clinical pivot and support needed for the continuous existence of the faculty of veterinary medicine. As a core clinical department for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programme, the department equips students with the knowledge of the diagnosis and management of various surgical conditions encountered in companion and farm animal.

The department is endowed with highly sound and dedicated academics, laboratory technologists, administrative and supporting staff, the department assists the faculty in producing professionals worthy in character and learning thereby contributing her quota in the realization of the vision of the University.
