M.ED. LANGUAGE EDUCATION
Philosophy
The overall philosophy of postgraduate programmes in Education is the development of professional educators who are social engineers of change through education either as professional teachers, promoting teaching and learning, researchers or managers of educational institutions and end-user organisations.
Aim
The aim is to develop higher level manpower in Language Education that can cope with both academic and social demands for the use of English language for daily needs in the society as well as academic institutions.
Objectives
The objectives are to:
- Develop professional expertise of students in English language education
- Develop knowledgeable scholars who will provide leadership in professional practice and intellectual competence in English language education.
- Produce educators who are knowledgeable in and committed to the implementation of the English language component of the National Policy on Education.
- Develop competent researchers in English language education in Nigerian Education system.
- Produce educators who can make Nigerian learners of English relevant in a global context.
Admission Requirements
- Five ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant subjects.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Languages) of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto or any other recognized institution. With a minimum of second class Honors Lower Division.
- In addition to (i) and (ii) above, a candidate must satisfy the matriculation requirements of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Any other qualifications acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and the Senate of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Mode of Study
- The programme shall run on full time basis and shall be by coursework and research to be embedded in a Dissertation.
Duration
- A minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 36 calendar months.

Graduation Requirements
- Register and pass minimum of 37 units taught courses.
- Carry out research on relevant area of specialization and submit an acceptable Dissertation which shall be defended before a panel of internal and external examiners and shall be graded.
- Present two seminars at most one per semester.
