M.Phil. EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Philosophy
The philosophy of the M.Phil. Degree programme in Educational Technology is anchored on the belief that students should be provided advanced and up to date training in the design, development, and use of educational resources thereby enabling them to offer specialised services and provide leadership in the field of Educational Technology, in a variety of educational settings at local, national, and international levels.
Aim
The aim of the programme is to train students in general and specialised areas of Educational Technology by equipping them with knowledge, skills, and research capabilities in the field.
Objectives
The objectives of the programme are to:
- Enhance the development of students’ research skills, methods and exposure to core areas in educational technology.
- Develop and stimulate the intellectual potentials of students.
- Prepare students for higher degrees in educational technology and other related fields.
Admission Requirements
Stream A
- Five O’level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any other three relevant subjects.
- A Bachelor Degree in Education passed at minimum of 2nd Class lower division from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto or any other recognised institution.
- Master Degree in Educational Technology obtained from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, or other recognised institutions with a CGPA of less than 4.00 or a 5-point scale or its equivalent.
- In addition to i-iii above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s requirements for matriculation.
Any other qualifications acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University.
Stream B
- Five O’level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any other three relevant subjects.
- A Bachelor Degree in Education passed at minimum of 2nd Class lower division from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto or any other recognised institution.
- Master Degree in related fields obtained from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto or any other recognised institution.
- In addition to i-iii above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s requirements for matriculation.
Any other qualification acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University.
Mode of Study
The programme shall run on Full-Time and Part-Time bases and shall be by course work and research embodied in a Dissertation.
Duration
M.Phil. Degree Progamme
Full-Time: Minimum of 24 calendar months and a maximum of 36 calendar months.
Part-Time: Minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
M.Phil/Ph.D Programme
Full-Time: Minimum of 48 calendar months and a maximum of 72 calendar months.
Part-Time: Minimum of 60 calendar months and a maximum of 96 calendar months.

Requirements for Graduation
- Student must register and pass a minimum of 38 credit units made of the following:
Courses Units
- Core Courses 12
- Specialised Courses 10
- Dissertation 16
2. Present and defend a dissertation before a panel of assessors, and the dissertation shall be graded.
3. Present two seminar papers, at most one per semester.
Upgrade to Ph.D.
A student pursuing M.Phil./Ph.D. programme may be upgraded to Ph.D. status based on his/her fulfillment of the following requirements:
- The candidate must have been registered for a minimum of 36 calendar months if on full time, or 48 calendar months, if on part-time;
- The candidate must have successfully completed the coursework with at least an average of “B” grade;
- There shall be a satisfactory progress report on the research work (of the candidate) by a panel of three assessors approved by the Board of Postgraduate School.
