Prof. Abubakar Abdullahi, BSc., M.P.A, MSc., PhD.

Brief Biography
Abubakar Abdullahi is a Professor of Government and Politics at the Department of Political Science, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Political Science in 1998 at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. Abdullahi received his M.Sc. and Ph. D degrees in the same University in 2007 and 2014 respectively. After briefed stay as a lecturer at the Sokoto State Polytechnic, Sokoto, he joined the services of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto as an Assistant Lecturer and successfully rose to the rank of Professor of Government and Politics. Professor Abdullahi’s several years of teaching and research provides him with the opportunity to have a deeper knowledge of various areas of Government and Politics including democratic governance, development issues, state formation and development, conflict and violence among others. In promoting his career and profession, Professor Abdullahi has attended numerous national and international conferences and workshops and published in some reputable journals of politics, governance and development. He was a former Executive Director, Initiative for Youth Support and Re-orientation (I4Youth) and a member of 2011 election INEC study group. He serves as a resource person for national and international organizations including Sokoto State House of Assembly (SOHA), Immigration Command and Staff College, Sokoto, RTI/Leads International and Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) Abuja among others. Professor Abdullahi was a visiting Senior lecturer and later Professor to several universities including Sokoto State University, Sokoto; Federal University, Gusau; Al-Qalam University, Katsina and Federal University Birnin-Kebbi. He has been a member of reputable professional associations including Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA), African Politics Conference Group (APCG), American Political Science Association (APSA) and Mid-West Political Science Association (MPSA). Professor Abdullahi was a recipient of 2015 APSA Professional Development grant. He has established contact with network of professional academics and policy practitioners, who often engages him in various policy research, training and capacity building. Professor Abdullahi was a former Deputy Dean and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and was recently appointed as the Director of Registration and Examination of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.Area of specialization: | Government and Politics. |
