Prof. M.J. Umaru
Brief Biography
Professor Momoh-Jimoh Jatto Umaru obtained his LL.B (Combined Honours) Degree from University of Sokoto (now Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto) in 1986 and proceeded to Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1987 where he bagged his BL in 1988. He did his National Youth Service at Ministry of Justice, Benin, Bendel State (now Edo State) in 1988/1989. He went into private legal practice in Kaduna between 1989 and 1993. He obtained his LL.M Degree from University of Jos in 1998 and his Ph.D from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 2007.
Prof. M.J. Umaru joined Usmanu Danfodiyo University as an Assistant Lecturer in Faculty of Law in 1993, rose through the ranks and became a Professor in 2013.
In the course of his academic career progression, he taught several courses, supervised to completion several students at all levels from undergraduate to Ph.D. He served as Faculty Examinations Officer, two times Faculty Postgraduate Coordinator, three times Head of Department, Dean of Law, Editor-in-Chief of the Faculty Journal, Member Task Force Committee on Recovery of Sokoto State Government Properties and Funds, Chairman/Member of various committees both at Faculty and Management levels. He is a member of Nigerian Bar Association and one time Chairman of its Sokoto Branch - Caliphate Bar.
