Prof. Sulaiman Khalid
Brief Biography
Sulaiman Khalid (Ph. D) is a Professor of Sociology (of Development) in the Department of Sociology, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria. Born on 15th February, 1963, in Jega, Kebbi State, he obtained his B. A. (Hons) Degree from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 1985, M. Sc. (Sociology) and Ph. D. (Sociology) from Bayero University, Kano in 1991 and 1997, respectively. He started his academic career in 1989 in the Department of Sociology, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto as Assistant Lecturer and rose steadily to the rank of Professor in 2006. His research focusses mainly on development issues such as reproductive health and gender, poverty, youths and vulnerable children (almajirai) and the civil society organizations. He has edited four books and published scores of articles in national and international journals and books. Over the years, Prof. Khalid had served the University in different capacities; Head, Department of Sociology, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Director, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Consultancy Services Ltd, and member University Governing Council. He also served as Consultant to many international development organizations and United Nations systems like UNFPA, UNDP, WHO and UNICEF. Prof. Khalid had also won national and international research grants such as: Grantee, MacArthur Fund for Leadership Development 2003-2004, funded by John & Cathrine McArthur Foundation; Grantee, Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Rabat, Morocco, 2003-2005; Grantee, TETFund National Research Fund, 2019. He is also a Fellow, Leadership Development Mechanism (LDM), Institute of International Education, Santa Cruz, USA, 2001-2003 funded by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and Fellow, Leadership Development Program (LDP), UNDP-NACA, Abuja – Nigeria, December, 2006.
